You’re Made at Sac State! Here are eight steps for celebrating with the perfect ‘Virtual Grad Party’

You did it. You’ve graduated from Sacramento State, joining more than 200,000 Hornet alumni worldwide who can proudly say they were “Made at Sac State.”

So now what? … It’s time to celebrate!

We know this graduation isn’t what you were expecting. We look forward to seeing the Class of 2020 back together in person next May. Until then, we want to celebrate you and your accomplishments, and we hope you will join us on June 6 for our Virtual Graduation Celebration.

Invite your friends and family to celebrate with you as well. Here are eight steps for throwing the perfect Hornet Virtual Graduation Party.

Step 1: RSVP

Register for Sac State’s Virtual Graduation Celebration by May 24 to ensure that your personalized graduation slide is included. You can RSVP on your My Sac State Student Center

Step 2: Invite people

Send invitations to your family and friends, letting them know how they can join you (i.e. via Zoom) for your virtual celebration. Download graphics for your invitations at sacstate.me/GradKit

Step 3: Get your gear

Order your cap and gown online via the ASI Student Shop. Select “pick up” at checkout for safe curbside pick-up.

Step 4: Get decked out

Every party needs decorations! Download the Commencement Kit to share assets on social media AND print lawn signs and banners. Green and gold balloons are a plus! And if you’re looking for a Zoom background for when you log on with your friends and family, we have some suggestions

Step 5: Check your tech

Prepare the Commencement website on your computer/device. Learn to share your screen so your group together can watch President Nelsen kick off the ceremony. Nothing says graduation more than a unison “Stingers Up!” Then watch the videos from the dean of your college and student speakers. They’ll be available on the Commencement website at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 6.
Step 6: Load some tunes

A graduation ceremony needs music, right? Play “Pomp and Circumstance” in the background, found on this Graduation Playlist on Spotify

Step 7: Plan some speeches

Ask your family or friends to speak or nominate someone to be a virtual guest speaker (and don’t forget to prepare a few words to say yourself).

Step 8: WALK “THE STAGE”!

Show off your grad slide and let the prerecorded message announce your name. Then walk your walk! Acknowledge those who joined you for the celebration, and thank the people who helped you along your journey. You earned this moment. Enjoy it!

And it doesn’t end there. We hope you’ll stay connected with the Hornet Family by joining the Alumni Association, and reading on this site about some of the Hornet alums doing amazing things. We can’t wait to see how you’ll make your mark on the world. Congratulations, #SacStateGrad!
